Nokia has shuttered its UK and US online store following the similar closures in mainland Europe which also states the customers will no longer be able to purchase directly from Nokia online in these countries.
Nokia’s other online stores in France, Spain and the Netherlands were already closed back at the end of May as part of the ‘Restructuring’ and now it was announced back in June that the UK store too would be closing down as the other online stores around the world.
Those with unlocked Nokia handset in the US are straight directed to Amazon instead with no more orders being taken from today onwards.
A spokesperson at the time told Mobile Today:
“The closure is not only in the UK but will also include our online stores worldwide. We are working closely with partners as part of a company overhaul and closing our online stores is part of a wider company strategy.”
These recent closures will also be followed in other countries like Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia and Switzerland. Nokia had 12 online stores around the globe at the stretch which allow customers to purchase Nokia handsets and mobile accessories.
Nokia on being asked about the closure of their online stores had their justifications as, when Nokia has watched various third party companies move into the market and the company decided there were enough options to pick up the phone they want of their choice without having to go direct to the online stores. Customers can be a better judge for themselves and Nokia is too popular to be sold anywhere.
Let’s see as the real push is saved for the later when the first Nokia Windows Phone handsets will arrive. Hope this step of Nokia won’t affect the brand!
